I won’t choose a simple path where the ending is readable from the start anymore
“All worldly things are transitory”, I’ll entrust myself to that wave
The evening banquet is starting so listen carefully to the tone; What should we sing?
Firmly echoing, this feeling will become the guide

Just like a silhouette floating on the water surface
For once in a lifetime, shall we let it bloom?
Uniting our hearts with the heaven toward ephemerality
Let us show you how it’ll bloom

Oh dream, flowers blooming wildly
Fluttering gracefully and beautifully in the sky
Imitating the eternal moon
It’s a crimson colored moonlight evening

Let the sound of clashing swords resounds
Now, just like how petals are scattered
Let us imprint those sparkles in our memory
Everyone please watch this instant dream carefully

The journey we looked up to see to reach the towering heights is a perilous path
The soul of Yamato engraved in this heart
What do you think of the faint light spilling out that could take away your sleep?

The swords go as they clash
This will, let it become the truth
Don’t let its figure to be hidden away by the gathering clouds

As we split the infinite varieties
The soul of language that even make the heavens obey
Let us watch is roar

The banquet of the stars, pay your heeds to all things in nature
The sky is raising the tides of the beautiful ocean
Lighten up the center by burning it up
The resounding of the pipe under the night of the crescent moon

The flowers unite as they please
Now, the folding fans are overturned
So that it will not disappear into the illusions
It exchanges a vow
An endless night that dances around like a butterfly

As if the colours are floating on the season’s windows
It spins as the elegance is left behind
Let the dreams ripen by imitating the shadows

Just like a silhouette floating on the water surface
For once in a lifetime, shall we let it bloom?
Uniting our hearts with the heaven toward ephemerality
Let us show you how it’ll bloom

Oh dream, flowers blooming wildly
Fluttering gracefully and beautifully in the sky
Imitating the eternal moon
It’s a crimson colored moonlight evening

Let the sound of clashing swords resound
Now, as if the petals are being scattered
Let us imprint those sparkles in our memory
Let us slowly bloom this instant dream into a flower of refinement
Now, everyone watch carefully

Whenever a swaying light pink color blooms on the surface of the water
Those faraway days always crossed my mind
Just an instant of piled up moments
Makes my chest feels like it’s being stabbed; It’s the season of painful dream

There’s a warmth I don’t want to forget for eternity
And no matter how many times we part and reunited again
I’ll make sure to hold onto it because I want to tell you

Cherry blossoms night, this longing feeling
A love letter carrying distant promise
It keeps repeating for years, yet this feeling doesn’t change no matter how many years I’ve count

I decided to write a letter but I can’t find the right words
Your vestige is too lovely
Will I be able to meet those eyes again? (The moon is shining)
It’s love at the dawn, colored with the brilliance of cherry blossoms at night

As if the pale petals are closing their eyes
A painful dream the fluttering seasons are as they dance around the skies
As time flows there is a smile which its light hasn’t faded
No matter what it changes its shape to
I’ve always kept that one person in my memories

I believe that the poetry I evoked ‘The flowers may be beautiful…’
Will someday reach to your heart
Let us meet under the scent of a full bloom

A light crimson that decorates the spring
Can you hear the greetings to you, the beauty
Now, it’s as if I’m being resurrected behind my eyelids (the moon is watching)
It’s love at dawn, as we rely on the falling cherry blossoms

Because it feels like the passing days have all been dreams
Because it feels like the faraway sky
The piece of your heart you left behind on that day
Sways gently in the wind

I will always remember even after a thousand years
I will continue waiting for millennia and millennia
Even if it becomes a song no one knows the author to
I will always think of you

There’s a warmth I don’t want to forget for eternity
And no matter how many times we part and reunited again
I’ll make sure to hold onto it because I want to tell you

Cherry blossoms night, this longing feeling
A love letter carrying distant promise
It keeps repeating for years, yet this feeling doesn’t change no matter how many years I’ve count

I decided to write a letter but I can’t find the right words
I shall send this to you, the beauty
Let’s dream with those eyes another time (the moon is shining)
It’s love at the dawn, colored with the brilliance of cherry blossoms at night

[Sounds of swords clashing]

[Souma yelling]

Keito: Hey, Kanzaki.

[Souma continues yelling and swinging his sword]

Keito: Kanzaki!

Keito: Can't you hear what I'm saying?

[A sound like Keito catching Souma's arm mid-swing]

Souma: Ah! That is, Hasumi-dono, since when have you been here....?

Souma: Uh, I thought that no one was here, and I was just swinging my sword....

[Sound of feet on a dojo floor]

Souma: Hasumi-dono, are you hurt....?

Keito: You really are incorrigible! Despite the fact that I've told you time and again not to swing your katana around, I find you doing this...

Keito: Perhaps I should confiscate this katana after all....

[Souma drops to the floor]

Souma: This is my one request! Please spare me that, if only that! A katana is the soul of a samurai. If I was without my katana.... I would be no better than worthless refuse. I would have no reason to live!

[A gloomy bell rings]

Keito: You are not a samurai, you are an idol! But this is not the time to be discussing that, is it. What is Kiryu doing? I don't see him around here, but....

Souma: Kiryu-dono? He was saying that he had been called to the dance room by you, Hasumi-dono, but... He didn't see you there, Hasumi-dono, so he intended to train. I have not seen anyone like Kiryu-dono since then.

Keito: Kiryu, you.... You have some nerve to neglect your promises.... Kanzaki, I'm going to go look for Kiryu. You wait here.

Souma: Understood. If Kiryu-dono happens to appear here, I shall contact you, Hasumi-dono.

Keito: Please do so. Really, that Kiryu, putting me through this work..

[The sound of a door opening]

Kuro: Sorry for being late, Hasumi, Kanzaki.

[Keito takes out a watch, the sound of it ticking plays]

Keito: You're late by ten minutes, Kiryu. What were you doing until now?

Kuro: I got a call from my little sister. We ended up talking for quite a while, and went on past the time we were supposed to meet.

Keito: If you had business important enough to make such a long phone call with her, it would have been better for you to have just gone to talk to her in person, wouldn't it? Having such a long conversation over a telephone receiver, I couldn't understand why you'd do it.

Kuro: No, it wasn't anything important. I just listened to her talk about things that happened at school, that sort of little thing, but it seems that for some reason women like those kinds of long conversations, you know. This and that, the topics leap from one to another. And even when I tried to end the conversation at a good place, she would pester me, “I still have things to say!” It would have been bad of me to interrupt her, and all, so I ended up talking to her... for more than an hour, didn't I... Lately I've been busy with work and club activities, so I haven't been paying much attention to my little sister, see. I'm sure she was missing me, you know. Even so, she never makes a single complaint, so she's a better little sister than I deserve.

[Sparkling sound effects, Souma begins to cry cartoon-ish streams of tears]

Souma: Kiryu-dono, you and your little sister have built such a good relationship, haven't you! I, Souma Kanzaki, am so moved it is painful!

Keito: Don't cry. It's annoying. Well, now I understand why you were late. However, you spoil your little sister too much. If this was a job, doing something like this would be a problem, you know.

Kuro: Yeah, that's true. I understand that too. But, you know, maybe because we lost our mother so early, she doesn't know how to depend on others. Our father just works and works, and he's rarely home, so, naturally, I feel that if I don't spoil her...

Keito: I get it. I get it, so leave it at that. Even though you usually don’t have much to say, when it comes to your little sister, you randomly become a chatterbox, don't you.

Kuro: My little sister is so cute, so I never run out of things to say about her, you know. But, it wouldn't do for us to just stand here talking about my little sister forever, would it. Pretty soon, would you inform me of the reason you called me out here, Hasumi danna?

Keito: I could lecture you for making me participate in that meaningless conversation, but... well, whatever. The reason I called you two out here is....

[An ominous sound effect plays]

Keito: ...because Akatsuki received some work, you see.

[Guitar music begins to play, turning into an arrangement of Hyakka Ryouran]

Souma: Ohhh! By work, you mean, idol work, do you not?

Keito: Yes. It's a unit song and a variety show.

Kuro: We are idols, so it's natural that there's a request for a unit song, but isn't appearing in a variety show a bit of a strange request?

Keito: We specialize in down-to-earth performances founded on traditional culture. It would be unthinkable for us, who honor traditional culture, to become tied to a variety show. However, the other party asked us to think about breaking that image. When you hear “traditional culture,” it has an image of being overly ceremonious. It is inevitable that the type of clientele for that will be limited. Akatsuki shall do as it always does, solidly and perfectly. That is traditional culture, traditional performances. We have reigned at the top of Yumenosaki with that style. However, that situation has been overturned. If you just look down arrogantly from on high, you can be more easily defeated. Yumenosaki Academy is different. No, I should say it has been changed by someone. Although Eichi has returned from his leave of absence, I simply cannot say it has not gone back to the way it was. That refined kingdom was destroyed by a person I dismissed as a mere pebble..... At any rate, it's no help to feel sorry over that now. If we have time to feel regretful, we should be pushing ahead.

Souma: What Hasumi-dono is saying is quite right, isn't it. However.... I have never seen this thing called a variety show. I wonder, what kind of thing is a variety show?

Keito: I also have made it a point not to watch such vulgar things as variety shows. I only know what I've heard from others, you know. If I am not mistaken, it is a combination of songs and short skits for amusement, is it not?

[Music starts again]

Kuro: That understanding is generally correct. They have a lot of trivial things in them, but there are some worth something. The late night variety shows and all are pretty interesting, you know. At first, I had no interest in them at all, but as I watched them with my little sister, I ended up getting hooked on them, so much so that now I'll stay up late watching them. There have been times when I haven't been able to get up in the morning because of it.

Keito: Staying up late has no part in my life. My family home is a temple. Fundamentally, we go to sleep early and wake up early. I rise from bed at 4:40am, then, after reading the newspaper, breakfast. At night, I go to sleep before 9pm.

Kuro: So the reason I could never reach you by phone after 9 was... because you were sleeping, was it? I thought for sure it was just that the signal wasn't reaching your phone.

Keito: Although it is in the mountains, the signal gets through. Well, depending on the location, there are places where it does not, but at any rate, there are almost no times when I am awake past 9.

Souma: I am also endeavoring to go to bed early and wake up early, but I am no match for Hasumi-dono. I determined that I would retire to bed at 10 at night, and wake up at 5am, and...

Kuro: I think that is more than enough, though. I can't say he's correct as a rule, you know. The amount of time people need to sleep is different, and all. I've been waking up before 6 in the morning, but I have also inadvertently overslept, and ended up closer to 8, you know.

Keito: You, you're a member of Akatsuki even in spite of that? Speaking of which, if you woke up at 8, you would be late, wouldn't you!

Kuro: A friend from when I was in middle school comes to get me every morning, so even though I tell him not to bother with me, he always begs me to go with him, and I can't get rid of him, you know. *sigh* Even though I've told him over and over again that I don't like vehicles, so I don't want to ride a motorcycle, he doesn't listen. Well, he isn't a bad guy, though. In terms of his looks, he has a face so scary that kids would run away from him barefoot, but he's a good-natured guy.

Keito: Is that so. I've grasped the situation. I thought I saw a fellow ill-suited to Yumenosaki Academy pass by quite a bit, but that was your acquaintance, wasn't it. I'll say it as many times as I need to, but you are a member of Akatsuki. If you hang around with a no-good guy from wherever, it could end up starting rumors. Even under the best of circumstances, doing that would be dangerous, but what do you intend to do if this caused Akatsuki to be unable to recover?

Kuro: I don't know what I think about you concluding that he's no-good from how he looks, but... What you're saying has reason behind it too, Hasumi. I'll tell him not to come pick me up from now on, so be at ease.

Keito: Of course. Now then, let's get back to the topic at hand. The Unit song is fine, but the variety program is the problem, isn't it.

Kuro: Hasumi and Kanzaki, neither of you have seen one, have you? In that case, would you like to see what kind of thing they are?

Souma: I am in agreement with Kiryu's opinion. As I do not often watch “television,” I am looking forward to seeing what kind of program it is!

[Souma draws his sword]

Keito: Kanzaki! Don't draw your sword. It's a bad habit of yours to draw your sword when you get excited, you know. However, even if we would watch them, we don't have the necessary materials... Kiryu, do you intend to go borrow them now?

[Rustling]

Kuro: No need to worry about that.

[An excited sound effect plays, rock music begins]

Kuro: I was just thinking about returning it today, so I have this DVD with me. The content is variety, so it's perfect, right? I've reserved the AV Room as well, so we can use it right away, see.

Keito: How meticulous of you.. It's just as though you knew what I was going to tell you before I actually told you, but....

Kuro: It's just a happenstance. Even I was surprised that this kind of coincidence came up, though, you know. I was really thinking about canceling the reservation before I came here, but my phone call with my little sister ended up being so long, you know. So I ended up coming here with things like this, but it turned out that that was quite fortunate, wasn't it? Ah, I'll have to tell my little sister thanks later... Maybe I should buy her some of the sweets she likes on the way back.

Keito: I'm telling you, you spoil your little sister too much. Well, whatever. At any rate, if we have the materials, there is no situation better than this. Time is money. Let's move to the AV Room right away.

[Zooming sound effect]

[Sound effects of them messing with the DVD player]

Souma: Kiryu-dono... Do you play back a “DVD” with this....?

Kuro: Have you... never played a DVD?

[A spring sound effect plays]

Kuro: Ugh, really, you made such a mess of the wires.... I'll do it for you, so you just watch over there.

[Sound effect of Souma's sword rattling as he walks]

Souma: …. Understood.....

[Sounds of Kuro messing with the DVD player]

Kuro: If I do this here... A'ight, it's done.

[The DVD player opens]

Kuro: Hey, Kanzaki. Sit over there and watch it carefully.

[The DVD player takes the DVD]

Kuro: In all seriousness, don't take out your katana, okay.

[Strange sound effects play, a cuckoo clock goes off, guitar music begins, Keito groans]

Kuro: What's the matter, Hasumi? You're wrinkling up your face, you know.

[Laughing sound effects from the DVD]

Kuro: Oh, this scene, huh. This is the one where an idol with no artistic ability drew a picture, and they're trying to guess what it is, right? When I first watched it, I thought it was a dog, you know. When I heard the correct answer was that it was a lion, I was surprised.

[Kuro laughs]

Kuro: Oh, sorry. That's not something so important that I should have spoiled the scene, is it... The next one is funny, too, so do you want to fast forward the DVD and watch it?

Keito: There is no need to do that.

[Keito gets up]

Keito: As I can't even understand why they're making such a fuss about him being bad at drawing, I am sure my opinion will not change from watching another. That variety shows were this trivial and worthless.... We've wasted our time, haven't we? Kanzaki, you think so also, don't you?

[Laughing from the DVD can be heard, as well as some strange sound effects and camera noises]

Souma: Ooohhhh....

Kuro: Oh, he's really sank his teeth into watching it, huh. Somehow it seems that unlike you, Hasumi, Kanzaki has become a prisoner of the variety show.

Keito: To have your heart stolen by such a vulgar program as this... you are incorrigible... However, work is work. Even if I can't understand it in one try, I just have to get down and do it.

[Screaming and laughing from the DVD]

[A splashing noise from the DVD, Keito gasps]

Keito: What is this!? I thought he ran into the pool suddenly, but now he's making a fuss about being hot!? And in his panic, he is splashing more water on himself? I do not understand this at all!

Kuro: This is what they call a “boiling water bath.”

Souma: To be submerged in boiling water, he is risking his life, is he not! As part of my training, I have also undergone waterfall training, but... I have never done any training by being submerged in boiling water! That being an idol could be so severe... I had been making light of idols, it seems!

Kuro: Even if they call it “boiling water,” the water is actually at about 45 degrees Celsius, give or take, you know. If they swam in water near 100 degrees, they'd end up being burned, after all.

Souma: But, this personage was making a fuss, like “Hot, it's hot!” If it was just around 45 degrees, he wouldn't be making such a fuss, would he? Rather, to me, it would be a suitable temperature.

Kuro: Heh. That's him acting, I'm sure. If he went into a “boiling water bath” with a calm face, the audience would be bored, and all, you know. Well, this kind of thing isn't something idols really do, anyway. This is pretty much a thing for actors.

[The DVD's laugh track plays]

Souma: Hm, so that's the kind of thing this is... I thought it was interesting, but that's a disappointment.

Keito: What's interesting about this! I have no taste for enjoying such disgraceful behavior!

[A pause, then more laughing from the DVD]

Keito: However... the more of this variety show that I watch, the more my will to perform in one evaporates... I took it on because we're not in a position to choose our work, but... this is trendy?

Kuro: It's still early to regret it, right?

[Music changes to the arrangement of Hyakka Ryouran]

Kuro: To complain before you even do it, that's not like you, Hasumi danna. You're going to break down Akatsuki's overly ceremonious image, right? We're not going to destroy our distinctive style, but we need to take in a new approach as well. That's why we took on this work, but....

Keito: I know that, even without you telling me! It will not be possible for Akatsuki to make a comeback with a frozen mindset. If we're going to do this, we're going to do this thoroughly. Kiryu, we'll play all of the DVDs you have. We must not miss a single word. Make them all my fuel!

Kuro: Hahaha... Although you look like such a quiet bespectacled guy, when a fire is lit within you, this is how you get. That's why I decided to follow you, too. Now then, I'm also looking forward to seeing how Akatsuki will change from here!
